Interview between Keira Kroft and Lyn Croft

Interview between Keira Kroft and Lyn Croft

Welcome to Keira’s Corner, where there is always chocolate, and lots and lots of coffee.

Keira: You have a story out through Hellfire Publishing entitled Blood Lilies ~ Bloodlines. What is that about?

Blood and Lilies - Bloodlines is the first installment of a tale about a girl who finds out she is the key to the gates of heaven and hell. She discovers she is living amongst demons, vampyres, and the Nephilim. Everything she knew is stripped away as she finds herself betrayed by ones she loves most, while trying to embark on a journey with her new found love. Hunted and scared, she fights to stay alive against an evil queen and her loyal minions; only to discover there is more to her existence than she is being told.  Who can you trust when everyone wants to sacrifice you for the greater good?

Keira: What do you wear, to write?

Lyn: I prefer my pajamas, but I’m usually casual in jeans and a tee.

Keira: Is writing your only talent?

Lyn: Nope! I have many. To start, I’m super talented at being clumsy. I hear I’m a good cook too. I can make a mean Agua Chile…

Keira: Where in the Hell did you find time to write?

Lyn: I don’t sleep. ;) I truly wish I had more time, and I hope someday I am afforded the time to write more. Being a single mom, with a full time job takes up the majority of my time. So, when I am writing, it’s usually till after midnight, and I will spend an entire Saturday and/or Sunday on the laptop.

Keira: Why are you a writer?

Lyn: Because I love it. I can’t explain the awe of how stories take shape in my head, and come together on paper. I’m so blessed to be able to do this. I just love it.

Keira: If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

Lyn: Stephen King. Not only is he an amazing writer, but he’s dedicated and focused, and helps others with his experience. He persevered when most would have given up. His journey and accomplishments are my motivation to keep working, and never give up. Plus, he thinks up the best stuff to get under your skin. I love it!

Keira: Do you use a particular writing method?

Lyn: I like to outline and summarize my books before I write them. ’Blood and Lilies’ was not done this way, however. I wrote just started writing a few chapters in the middle, and then built the book around that. No outline, summary, or any clue where the characters were going to take me. It was a very interesting journey.

Keira: What time of day, do you write best?

In the evenings. That is when the house is peaceful, and the kiddo is in bed, and I can finally concentrate.

Keira: Do you use one or more pen names?

I currently have only one pen name. That’s not too say another one may pop up somewhere else someday…

Keira: What advice would you give to an unpublished writer?

Don’t give up, especially if writing is something you love to do. Do it for yourself, and for nobody else. Because at the end of the day, it is you doing what makes you happy.

Let’s get personal…

Keira: What is your favorite food?
Lyn: Sushi!
Keira: What is your guilty Pleasure?
Lyn: Video Games
Keira: What is your favorite Smell?
Lyn: Dragons Blood Incense. Hmmmmm
Keira: If you could change one your physical feature? Would you? What would it be?
Lyn: Nope, I’m made just the way God intended. ;)
Keira: What is your favorite color?
Lyn: Purple
Keira: What is your favorite day of the week?
Lyn: Sunday
Keira: What is your favorite animal?
Lyn: My pit Jasper… ;)
Keira: Can you tell us a secret?
Lyn: I see dead people.
Keira: Do you have pets?
Lyn: Yes, five dogs, one kitten, a boyfriend…Wait, does that count?
Keira: What do you consider a household staple?
Lyn: Tea! Lots and lots of it.
Keira: What are you reading?
Lyn: I am right at the end of Shadow of the Rose: Adversarius by M.L. Chesley.  Great Book by the way!
Keira: Can you share your blurb with us?

Lyn: But of course! I would love to.

A little something about Bloodbreeders: Seeking Other’s

Many things had come to pass long before our journey began, and we knew the time had come to seek for others. The wicked ways of the Bloodbreeders had to be stopped even if it meant that we would breathe our last breath in our efforts to make that happen. For centuries many had endured unspeakable acts and heinous torture at the hands of those they were forced to call “Master”. I was not one who could sit by and watch it continue. Not if I could do something to bring this madness down. Abducted myself, not long after I was brought into this world of darkness, I fortunately fared better than most and did not witness years of abuse as the others had and used that to my advantage. Now I had gathered a small group who would follow me into hell itself to see the Bloodbreeder world change and change for the good of all. Even if it meant we had to travel the world killing the wicked to set the innocent free…no matter who may die along the way.

A little something from Bloodbreeders: Seeking Other’s

All the males went out to put Gilbert on the cross, who I now found to be as loopy as a backwards misfit, with a taste of perversion. Tammy and I stayed and started searching through his files, in a room we found on the first floor. Tammy found one file that dated his experiment all the way back 1865, and the ledger was completely full of marks, which to me appeared to be the number of victims that went through his lab. This creature was nothing like us. On the contrary he was the worst of the lot, at least so far, I should say. Not only did he take life, he reanimated it. How I don’t know and I don’t care to find out. Even though I knew that I was also a form of the walking dead.
“Look at this, Renee. This file is on a girl. It says she had a decrease in the size of her eye teeth…her fangs. Think he’s full it?”
“I wish he wasn’t.”
“Want to be normal again?”
“No, it’s too late to go back now, but Johnny,” I paused. “I just can’t see him
being in a four year old body throughout his life span.”
“Then why take Gilbert’s life? He could be on to something.”
“You’re holding the files, Tammy. He’s sick and can’t be allowed to carry on with this sort of thing. He’s been using normals and getting them anywhere he can.”
“I know what you mean, but…”
“No buts about it…He dies!”
I left the room and started down the hall to go through another room in his home. I opened a door to a bedroom that looked normal enough, so I closed it and went to another. I found pretty much the same thing, nothing that was of any concern to us. I decided to go up stairs. There was the dim glow coming from the lights downstairs, casting shadows in every corner, and making me see things that weren’t there. I walked up to the first room and tried to turn the knob, but it was locked, so I went across the hall and tried that door, which opened as

Interview

You’re our #1 Bestselling author right now. What does that feel like?

Robin: It feels great!!! But it is also very shocking and humbling to know that I could write anything that people would enjoy, knowing my back-ground.

Why do you think that Arrival of the Prophecy was the “next big one” to take off since the Bloodbreeders series that earned you a seat on the panel at Anne Rices Undead Con?

Robin: I think because romance is so big right now and AOTP is a paranormal romance…or it could be that those who know about my work and want to see if I can write something other than horror or dark fantasy...LOL

Will we be hearing more form the ‘were clan’?

Robin: So far all that have read the book have asked me that, but I had planned on making it a one book read, because this book is one of a three book prophecy series…none having anything to do with the other. But, one of the other books, Dark Knight of the Skye ended where I will have to create another….so, who knows, you may see more of Anthony and Sky?

Is there a detail that you would like to share regarding Arrival of the Prophecy?

Robin: Werewolf King Anthony Michelle could have any woman that he wanted and they wanted him back, just by hearing the sound of his voice...but he only truly wanted the 'one' who didn't fall for that sound because she would be the one who carried what he needed the most...the other half of his soul...the thing that would make him whole. His life mate. He never once thought she would come in the form of a human. Sky Delaney never even knew his kind was real nor did she believe something so handsome would look her way. What would the two do and how would their worlds come together? One thing was for sure...Anthony's nemesis would use that knowledge to their fullest advantage.

What was writing these particular creatures like?

Robin: I don’t want to write any spoilers, but I LOVED writing about the new were-breed in this novel because they are just so nasty in their were-form and are a creature from my neck of the woods.

Please tell us about your other work that is already out through Hellfire Publishing?

Robin: OMGoodness…I have my Bloodbreeder series, which are my babies and there will be more books than even I had once thought. So far I have 2: Living in Darkness and The Revenge and #3 Seeking Others will soon be released. I have short stories; Jade Slate’s Hell’s Most Wanted and After Hours and a few anthologies. One children’s book that I wrote with my oldest granddaughter: The Tale of Two Toodlegnomes...and like I said...so much more to come. ; )

Can you tell us what’s next for Robin Renee Ray?

Robin: The first book in my Piper Vale series, Please Don’t Hurt Me…Piper is one of the meanest, hottest, females I have ever written about to date. Piper was a victim as a young teen who grew up to be a serial killer of, well, serial killers of the demented kind. I have three books so far in this series and may write more?

What does your future work look like?

Robin: Never Ending...LOL When you start out after you become a grandma and my daughter was 24 when she gave birth to my first grand….you just go until your world ends. So, I will never stop writing. My future work looks like every genre I can possibly write in.

A little bit about Arrival of the Prophecy

Shape-shifters have lived in chaos...for centuries, fighting clan against clan and breed killing breed. All Were-beings knew of the prophecy that spoke of the ‘ones’ who would come and bring peace to those who lived among the humans in secrecy and to those who lived under the thumb of an overbearing ruler.

Werewolf and clan leader Anthony Michelle meets the beautiful Sky Delaney and quickly realizes that she carries the other half of his soul, his one true mate and the ‘one’ that can set the prophecy on its foretold path, only to find that she is a frail, pure...human.

Excerpt:
The evening sky pulsed, hues of deep purples and blacks engraving blurry lines above the earth. The night echoed its cries, carried by angry breezes through the hills of the land. The cemetery, cascaded in carved tombstones that sprouted from the ground, laid empty and dormant, except for the busy yet silent whispers of the dead.
The ground, wet and damp, gave way beneath Cara’s bare feet as she trudged through the mud pushing between her toes. Her eyes traveled towards the ground to study her soiled feet, finding her body was draped in a simple, yet elegant white dress that graced below her knees. The plunging neckline stopped just beneath the cleft of her breast as the thin silk straps hugged the tops of her shoulders, exposing her bare delicate skin.
She scanned around her, alone and frightened, like a young child strayed from its mother. It was so dark, and the crested moon, swarmed by rolling darkened clouds, offered no safe haven of light to guide her way. Slow and unsure, she stepped cautiously, waiting blindly for an edge that would send her spiraling down into a never-ending abyss, swallowing her whole. The shadows danced in front of her, playing tricks on her unfocused eyes as her feet took her step by step.
Where was she? How did she get here? She could hear faint whispers of the dead crying out to her from the spirit world. Their words made no sense as they all jumbled together like a soft but unmelodic hum in the air. Her ears strained to make out parts of the words, hoping to piece together some language so that she could better understand why they had brought her here.
Realization struck. The voices had guided her here. She turned around towards where the whispers grew, louder and more needing. She followed them as they increased, vibrating through her head as if they were coming from inside her brain, instead of churning in the air around her. The darkness frightened her, yet she still continued, following the only guidance she had.
            Cara.
She could hear it now. Through the vast echo of the whispers, she could make out her name. They called to her, begged her to come near. She obeyed.
Something hard struck her toes, shooting instant pain up through her legs, like lightning igniting through her to her very core. Her body flew forward as she reached out to stop her fall. She expected a large stone to split her head. Or perhaps the tip of a metal cross would impale her through her chest and end it all, without her knowing or seeing it in the darkness before her. But there was nothing as her body hit the soft ground beneath her.
Grass laced itself through her fingers as she looked up to the gravestone in front of her. The clouds that had hugged the moon so well broke, lighting the etched carvings before her so she could see. What she read on the engraving shook her to the core. Her eyes couldn’t process, couldn’t comprehend what she was seeing.

Cara L. Chadwick
Beloved Friend and Student
We will miss you always
Oct. 18, 1992 to Dec. 21, 2012

A cry escaped her lips as Cara pushed herself up from the ground as fast as she could, stumbling backwards. She wanted to turn away, run and never look back. There was no way in hell she was going to stay here to hang out with her own tomb. And the date…it was this Friday’s date…or had it already arrived and was now in the past? Cara realized she had no idea of what time it was, or the day, but she needed to escape and get out of this place as fast as her bare feet could carry her.
Laughter filled the air around her, swirling and vibrating through her head as Cara searched to find where it came from. She knew the sound all too well, deeply etched in her head from the nights before. From her past experiences with the twins, she knew running would get her nowhere. She was a lost cause already from the moment she had stepped foot in this graveyard; the moment she saw her own grave laid out before her, they would win.
She lifted her eyes, outlining their shadows in the darkness before her as they stepped closer. Three slim figures graced towards her, gliding as if they walked on air. Two of them were the twins, but the third was new. One she had never seen.
Moonlight shone down upon them but seemed to focus upon the one in the middle, like a spotlight specially designed just for her. It graced her with such an illuminating light, as if the lunar orb had no other job in the world but to light a path for this godly being. Cara finally made out the woman’s face. She was absolutely beautiful. Breathtaking features sat on a perfect feminine frame. Her hair was jet black, wrapping like silk around her shoulders, flowing effortlessly past her thin waist. Natural waves cascaded through her locks as it glimmered off the light, highlighting scarlet tones that glistened through her hair. Her eyes sparkled, shining like ebony pearls, even though they held no light themselves. An endless black abyss filled them, contrasting against her smooth ivory skin. The twins flanked her sides like bodyguards, each paling in comparison to her existence. Dark eyes stared at Cara, taking her in as full ruby pouted lips carved up against sharp pallid teeth, exposing a ravenous smile that threatened to consume all in her path.
Fear filled Cara’s blood as she stood before them marveled and terrified all at the same time. Her feet were helplessly stuck to the ground as if the mud beneath her toes had turned into glue, holding her prisoner in front of her grave. The air in her lungs grew rapid and short as the panic raking though her veins clenched at her chest. She grew dizzy from the hyperventilation thinking about the date on her gravesite. It must be today, right now, December 21, the day Cara would leave this earth for good.
They wouldn’t have to carry her far to bury her either. No, they could just have their meal and toss her away like a rotting apple. Her limp body would lie lifeless till passersby found her decaying corpse and tried to contemplate the irony of a deceased body being outside of its grave. Her eyes shifted back and forth between the three goddesses before her as they approached closer.
The one in the middle spoke, “Ah, Cara, my child. Do not be frightened of me.” The woman’s voice was soft and sweet, almost alluring as she gazed upon her with treacherous eyes.
Cara didn’t move. She just stared in awe and fear. Something inside her stirred as if the voice was all too familiar. Her terror began to subside, though she knew she had to fight against this. Let the fear feed her, this witch before her could be casting a spell for all she knew.
“Sweet Cara. I have waited for you for so long, and now that you are here…oh child. Come to me.” She motioned with her hands for Cara to approach her.
Though every stem of Cara’s being told her to turn away and run, her body did not obey. Instead, it followed the orders of the hypnotizing goddess in front of her. Her feet, mechanical, moved towards the predators in front of her, and there was nothing Cara could do to stop it. Control had abated her. It didn’t belong to her anymore.
The woman’s slender hand caressed Cara’s cheek, her face motherly as she stroked the child, “Oh Cara, dear. Do you know how special you are? How special you are to me?”

Release day: Arrival of the Prophecy

Hello everybody,

A little bit from the Arrival of the Prophecy

The doorbell rang, coaxing Anthony out of the thoughts that he was having. Sky yelled out that she would get it and grabbed her purse. She answered the door thinking it was the pizza delivery, but started backing up, clinching her purse to her chest as soon as she saw that it wasn’t. Three tall men in expensive suits stood wearing looks of pure rage on their faces. Anthony set his cup on the coffee table and pulled Sky behind him.
“What are you doing here, Timothy?” Anthony asked in a serious tone, a tone that Sky hadn’t heard before.
“Tory told me of your findings and by the smell of this one,” he said pointing at Sky behind Anthony’s back. “You have already marked your claim.”
“This is none of your affair, so take your goons and go,” Anthony demanded in the form of an animalistic growl.
“If your decision affects the clan, you make it my business,” Timothy replied stepping closer to Anthony, showing his teeth as he spoke.
“I will challenge any wolf to the death that interferes with my decisions...even you my brother,” he growled stepping up to his brother’s chest, snapping his teeth that had started to elongate.
Sky couldn’t see Anthony’s face from where she stood, but she knew that something had changed by the way he sounded and the way he stood with his shoulders slightly hunched over. His back rose and fell in a different way; it was if he needed to take deeper, faster breaths. She looked down and saw his hands reform into the same shape that she had seen back at the house and became a true believer in what Anthony had been trying to tell her, at that very moment. His once human fingers now had three inch, black talon like claws and were twice as long. The bones morbidly snapped and popped as they transformed right before her eyes. Sky summoned every ounce of courage she had, placing her hand on Anthony’s back. She instantly felt him start to calm down. Timothy on the other hand, was being held by the two huge men that stood at his side.
“Don’t threaten me, Anthony, we aren’t children anymore and father isn’t here to pull me off of you,” Timothy said through clenched teeth, trying his best to pull away from the arms that firmly held him.
“You’re right, we aren’t children,” Anthony replied, standing straighter. He continued speaking with a calmer tone. “But, it was a promise, not a threat. I order you two to get him out of my sight, before I bring you both up on charges of conspiracy.”
Both men bowed their heads in unison, then dragged a yelling, Timothy down the hallway away from Sky’s apartment. Anthony shut the door then put his head against it, with his claw like hand still on the knob. It wasn’t until he felt Sky’s hand on his back for the second time, that he released the knob and turned around. She wrapped her arms around his waist, while he wrapped his arms around her upper body and laid his head down on top of hers.
“What a dick,” Sky said, making her own observation. “I’m sorry I didn’t believe you before. I thought you were going to wolf out all the way for a minute there.”
“I almost did. If you hadn’t put your hand on me, your apartment would need to be remodeled right now,” he replied, walking with her over to the couch.
“What did your brother mean when he said you already ‘marked your claim’?” Sky asked as they sat down together.
“He was talking about the mark on your leg,” he replied, thinking he might as well just tell her and get it over with. “You’re infected.”

Release day! Adversarius

Hello everybody,

Hellfire Publishing is proud to present its newest release, Shadow of the Rose: Adversarius. To kick off the release of Adversarius, Hellfire Publishing is giving away 5 eCopies to blog commenters.
So grab a glass off the tray and enjoy the tidbits about Hellfire Publihsings newest release and the fabulous author who wrote it.

A little bit about Adversarius
Two kingdoms, two goals.

The king of Relavia is determined to wipe out his warring neighbors in Paridzule, a worthy adversary for over five hundred years. News of an arranged marriage between his son and the daughter of his lifelong enemy has fueled the temper of Relavia's tyrannical king. What he doesn't realize is the true measure of his son's honor and how far he is willing to go to gain peace.

A little bit from Adversarius
Captain Sorcha Lilanthroe pushed her spyglass back in upon itself and leaned on the railing of the quarterdeck. She chewed the inside of her cheek, trying to make a decision.

“Fromas,” she finally beckoned her bosun and brother-in-law to her. She passed him the spyglass and lifted her chin in the direction she had been studying. “What does that look like to you? Two points off the port bow,” she directed.

Fromas lifted the contraption to his eye and surveyed the horizon. The suns shone onto his bald head. After a moment, he lowered the spyglass. He tilted his head slightly as he looked at his captain.
“Looks tae be the remains of a ship,” he confirmed her suspicions. “Hard tae tell, but by the color of the sails, might be a warship. Possibly from Paridzule.” Smoke billowed up over the wreckage and as they sailed closer, flotsam appeared in the water. The wake of her ship, the Blue Drake, pushed it easily aside. Sorcha lifted her chin again, indicating another point off the opposite railing for him to inspect.

“And what do you make of that? Four points starboard.” He lifted the glass to his eye once more and whistled softly.

“That looks tae be a survivor,” he passed the spyglass back to Sorcha.

“Indeed it does.”
“What be your orders, Cap'n?”

“Prepare to bring them aboard.”

“Man overboard!” Fromas bellowed, and the crew below them on the main deck relayed the order and prepared to pull the person from the water. One of the crewmen grabbed the gaff, leaning over the railing with the long pole. He made sure to hook the wreckage the person floated on—not flesh. Some of Sorcha's crew pulled on a rope attached to a pulley, sending a man sitting on a plank with a rope tied to each end like a swing, high into the air. Another pull of the rope and he swung beyond the railing as they lowered him into the water. As the man wrapped his arms around the unconscious form, he gave a shout and the men on deck pulled again, lifting both people out of the water and on to the deck, water spraying everyone in a wide arc.

Sorcha left the quarterdeck, going down the stairs to where her crew gathered around the still figure. She jabbed them with her elbows, shoving them roughly aside.

“Someone go fetch Percy. Move!” She shoved several more of her men out of the way and knelt down, pressing two fingers to the cool skin of the girl's neck. Life pulsed there, weak, but life nonetheless. She grabbed first one hand, then the other, looking for something specific. Sorcha found it on the right hand, slipped it off of the unconscious girl's finger and deftly stuck it in her pocket. “All of ye get back to yer stations!” she hollered. Most of the men frowned down at the girl lying on the deck but knew better than to disobey their captain.

Getting to know Hellfire’s newest author
M. L. Chesley is an Alaska based author, online blogger and MMORPG junkie. She has been writing fantasy for several years. Between writing, work and family she barely has time for much gaming, but some days, raids take precedence over all. If you would like to learn more about her world, created in this book, go to www.mlchesley.webs.com. You can also follow her blog at www.caledonialass.blogspot.com.

An depth Interview between Hellfire Publishing’s executive editor Dawn Binkley and M.L. Chesley.

Dawn: Is writing your only talent?
M.L. Chesley: No. I have an Associate’s Degree in Advertising Art. So, I like to draw when I have the supplies and opportunity. I am doing character drawings for my books. I’m also pretty skilled in people. In general, that is. I’ve worked customer service for almost 20 years and have learned to read people well. I use that in my writing when creating characters. I also love to cook/bake.

Dawn: Where in the Hell did you find time to write?
M.L. Chesley: I wish I could tell you! I have a great deal of time in the long winters of Alaska. I think if I didn’t have internet or my imagination, I’d go stir crazy. Picture ‘The Shining’...

Dawn: Why are you a writer?

M.L. Chesley: I love books. I love fantasy in particular. I have always enjoyed writing down little stories since I was a teenager and worked on some fan-fic with a friend. I knew, though, I had my own story inside me and over the years, I have had dozens of ideas and no patience to work on just one at a time. But I did!

Dawn: Please share a particular detail about one of characters, please.

M.L. Chesley: The pyrate in my books, Sorcha Lilanthroe, is actually based on my pirate persona from the SCA. (Society for Creative Anachronism) It is a medieval recreation group that has chapters all over the world. You have to research your name and device (coat of arms) and submit them to the College of Heralds. Everyone’s name and device should be unique (if possible) but also needs to be a name from the era you have chosen. You also have to research your history and come up with a viable story. My persona is Sorcha MacGregor from 17th century Scotland, who turned pirate.
Dawn: What advice would you give to an unpublished writer?

M.L. Chesley: Hmm... I would say, write, write and re-write. When you think you’ve got it all polished up and pretty, edit it again. Don’t give up! If you choose to go the route of becoming a self-published author, spend the money on an editor. It is worth every penny and your book will stand out that much more!

Let’s get personal…

Dawn: What is your guilty Pleasure?
M.L. Chesley: Guilty pleasure... I’d have to say Slippery Nipples...
The drink! Buttershots, Bailey’s Irish Cream and milk. Mmm!!

Dawn: What is your favorite smell?
M.L. Chesley: Easy! The smell of rain before a storm in the desert.

Dawn: What is your favorite favorite animal?
M.L. Chesley: Wolves, hands down. I have a wolf tattoo on my right ankle.

Dawn: Can you tell us a secret?

M.L. Chesley: not too much of a secret, but not something very well known, either. Don’t know what this will do to my sales, but I failed English all through high school. ~Blushes~ I had the skills and the knowledge. My teachers even encouraged me to write, but I just didn’t apply myself.
